The weekend, altough very quick, was very eventful. On Thursday evening we went to the Maxwell's to grab a bite to eat. Afterwards we went to the Goldhawk to see if there was any shows we could catch. There was an artist who was accompanied by a drummer and a trumpet player. She was pretty good - Rachael Sage. She was really entertaining. She was a 2005 Indie Music Award Winner for Folk/Singer-Songwriter and promting her new album The Blistering Sun...
I met up with my friend Martine for lunch at Bombay West, where we had Lamb Simosas, Naan with a side of Mango Chutney, and Chicken Tikka Masala. Mmmm. It was just spicey enough that I didn't need to keep downing buckets of water.
It was really nice to catch up with one of my BFFs from NYU, we hardly ever get to see each other outside of Ozo concerts due to our conflicting schedules.
Friday night I met up with Aiyana in Time Square to see Lucky Number Sleven. I had no idea what the movie was about going into it, which makes it even more enjoyable because it's fun to figure out what's going on and really get a good feel of the plot development. I really liked the movie and Lucy Liu's character too! We both came equipped with our snacks and the movie theater even sold coffee, which is a great idea because for a while I would fall asleep after any movie I saw past 9pm.
Saturday we took a walk into Hoboken - it was such a nice day! That's a picture of a vintage car that I saw and the fountains at Sinatra Park. Look at how blue and clear the sky was!
We made our way into NYC to check out the war protest and ended up joining it, walking from Union Square down Broadway to Foley Square. There were several thousands of people there, many were friends and relatives of troops abroad as well as troops who lost their lives. Along the way there were people on their fire escapes playing instruments and provide a beat for the chanting crowds. There was also a several people holding up a rope of pictures of troops who have all lost their lives in the war.
While this supported a good cause, we were talking to an older gentleman on Foley Square who made a good point to us: there was no leader to rally all the people together. The protest ended on Foley Square and there was no one to give a speech. This country is in dire need for someone to step up, lead the masses, and drive all the momentum. There's too many people in high places with conflicts of interest that are taking advantage of their power all for the sake of profit, while in our country we have cities that need rebuilding, public schools that need text books, and a health care system that needs more money to support the aging masses (baby boomers) - to name a few.
Saturday night we went to the Brasilia Grill in Newark with some of Ivan's work friends. The Rodizio and the Sangria was plentiful/wonderful and we ran away before dessert came out. Adam came over too but by then I was passed out.
On Sunday we went to my house to pick up my mom to bring her to her friend's BBQ. It was the first time Ivan saw the basement since the accident and he said it looked completely different. It really did too and I can't wait until the new bathroom is done. Although my dad had some disagreements with the way they did their work, it is really up to him since he is the customer and he needs to be happy with the end result. They all did a really great job though.
The BBQ we went to was in Bergenfield, NJ with one of her classmates/family friend from Nursing School in the Philippines. There was lots of Flip food that I haven't had in a while and even a whole Lechon! Mmmm. It was the first time that Ivan tried some of this food, although some of it is also native to his parents' home countries. We learned how to deshell some crabs and there was even more Sangria.
Getting back home we ran into some traffic, but after we got out of the tunnel, guess who was behind my car - good 'ol Unit #2. We followed each other to the grocery store where we continued to replenish the liquid diet we are currently trying.
