NYC WT #17: The East Village

As always, the weekend went by faster than we ever hope for! On Friday we both went to see my piano teacher. It was the first time I ever took someone else into a lesson with me! That's a step WAY out of my CZ and I'm happy I took it. We stayed there longer than expected but he gave us some good tips and advice, and talked about some of the theory behind the chord progression, which is always much more helpful when you see it in context. We also had a good discussion...

So we continued the Great American New York City Walking Tour this weekend - Saturday with the East Village and Sunday with Nolita. I don't have any pictures from Nolita because it was a little rushed.

Our Sunday tour started by Astor Place. As you can see, they have returned the infamous cube, which disappeared for a while.

We passed by a small little garden named The Creative Little Garden. It was very cute! It had a few small benches and tables with magazines and a game of checkers. We left a note in the visitor's book too!

We passed by Tompkins Square Park, once known as
tent city for its high density of homeless people taking shelter there back in the 80s. We took a picture of the famous tree that was in the center of it.

On our way we, coincidentally, ran into a salt and battery. We retraced our steps to visit a place called La Palapa, which we have been to before but the one on 6th Ave. We had some sangria and a snack for lunch. We stopped by some other bar/karaoke place but their drink was so bad we left we didn't even finish an 8th of the drink before we left.

Afterwards, we went into Greenwich village to run some errands and we also picked up some things at Eva's.

On our way back to the Path, we actually stopped by the other La Palapa and had a "glass" of Sangria, which really is 2 small individual pitchers instead. This picture is taken at the one on St. Mark's.

On Sunday was the Hoboken Arts & Music Festival. Ivan's friend stopped by and we did a quick walking tour of Nolita. We passed by this awesome brunch spot that had a tight jazz band playing, we all wished we could have stopped to eat there but we had plans to meet my hunny's sisters in Hoboken.

When we actually got back to Hoboken, we were tired and hungry. It was about 4pm and our dinner company was running a little behind so we decided to grab some coffee, split a sandwich, and sit down for a while. It took a long long time for our sandwich to come but it was such a nice day that we enjoyed sitting outside. Afterwards we walked back up to our place where Ivan's friend departed and we met up with Ivan's sisters for dinner.

We ended up going to the new Charrito's in Hoboken, up between 10th and 11th street. It was more than twice the size of the other Charrito's and the food was just as excellent as the other one. We brought a bottle of Sangria mix, since it was BYOB and that was awesome as well!

And, NO, I do not have a drinking problem if that's what you were thinking...but if you really think I ever do, let me know. =P

I was born and raised here too. I didn't see any skater people but I'm sure they'll be back. You probably will see me there since I'll be working right behind the bandshell this summer!
